Having a big city like Pittsburgh just south of us is one of the biggest benefits of living in Beaver County.

As you would expect from any great city, there are some great hyperlocal sites that cover the Pittsburgh area. We’re all big fans of the stuff that Fitt PGH and Thrillist Pittsburgh are doing, so I thought it would be fun to pull together a few of their articles that Beaver Countians might find appealing.

If you are looking for a fun activity to do in the big city this summer, this collection of weekend reading is a great place to start. Have fun!

1. Date Night Pittsburgh

Being that the city is somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes away (depending on traffic), it ends up being the perfect distance for a romantic date with plenty of time to talk in the car during the drive.

In this article, Laura Zurch breaks down the ultimate Pittsburgh date as it applies to 20 different neighborhoods. Working your way through this list is a killer way to get to know the city.

2. Go For a Walk

I’ve been talking a lot lately about how much I am enjoying walks around different parts of Beaver County. This article from Fitt PGH has a really great collection of places to go for a stroll in the city. Pair up your walk with a nice lunch or dinner and you’ve got a recipe for a beautiful day on your hands.

3. Explore Breweries and Distilleries

Years ago, Pittsburgh was an IC Light town. All we needed was a little IRON and maybe a Rolling Rock here and there. That’s not how things work anymore though.

Today, there are tons of really cool breweries and distilleries across the city…and most of them also have mind-blowing food. This article from The Thrillist Pittsburgh explores some of the best breweries and distilleries in the city.

4. Floating Across the Three Rivers

Know as a town of bridges and rivers, you almost can’t visit Pittsburgh without appreciating the breathtaking views these bodies of water create.

This article by Joe Vennare offers up 8 different ways to enjoy the rivers of Pittsburgh. I’m super interested in both kayaking and standup paddleboarding if anyone wants to hang out one of these days.

5. Investigate Pittsburgh Secrets

Alright, so this one might be a bit of a stretch, but I really liked the idea that Julianna Bagwell had to disclose some of the city’s most famous secrets. There are actually quite a few places on this list that I wouldn’t mind checking out just because I know a little bit about them now.

6. Drinking With James Taylor

I tried to go see James Taylor once, but the ticket prices were ridiculous so we watched him on Netflix instead. I know this isn’t exactly the same thing, but there are plenty of places in Pittsburgh where you can hang out “up on the roof.” See what I did there?

This article from Thrillist Pittsburgh breaks down the best rooftop bars across the city and gives you a basic idea of what each one specializes in. James would be proud.

7. Fittsburgh Brunch

Another great way to get your day in the city started is with a fabulous brunch. This article from Fitt PGH breaks down 10 of the very best healthy brunch options in the city. Yum!

8. Focus on the Discount Adventures

Many of the most popular activities in the city catch a bad rap for being too expensive. But there are also tons of inexpensive things to do if you aren’t looking to break the bank.

Laura Zorch took the time to put together a list of 40 things to do that all cost $10 or less. Using that as a road map, you can explore the city for months without spending much cash at all!
