Piper’s Pit: The Secret Ingredient to a Perfect Party

For those of you who don’t know, I had a birthday this past Sunday.

On my birthdays, my family usually goes out to eat. But with it falling on a Sunday this year, things got complicated because most of my favorite spots around here aren’t open on Sundays. So I had to call an audible.

Hanging at Home

After about the 17th text from my mom asking where I wanted to go for my birthday, I realized that I actually didn’t want to go anywhere. Really, all I wanted to do was hang out at home, drink beer, eat ribs, and watch the boats float by.

The weather app said it was going to be 85 and sunny, so the boats were no problem. And if you read my National IPA Day article, well…the beer was no problem either.

Only thing left was the ribs….and the rest of the food.

I can make pretty good ribs myself, but who wants to do that on their birthday. And we all know I love PJ’s BBQ, but we do that most every Sunday and I wanted this to be something special.

Mrs. Your Beaver County’s sister suggested that we should check out a place called Piper’s Pit. After jumping on their website, I found that I could order ribs and chicken with two hot sides and two cold sides for $13/person. Sold!

As it turns out, this guy works out of his house just off of Hall Road in Center…which is literally in my mother-in-law’s backyard.

Then I found out that Alison hired him to cater her wedding and was very impressed, so he’s got references too!

Meeting Ben Piper

When I showed up to get my order on Sunday afternoon, Ben Piper came out to introduce himself. Then he welcomed me into his kitchen and showed me around a bit.

Now when I say that this dude works out of his house, it is definitely not what you are thinking. He has an attached garage that he has completely converted into a fully licensed and inspected commercial kitchen. Totally legit.

Of course, all of that doesn’t mean much to me. I just wanted to know if the food was any good…

As it turns out, everything was excellent. We highly recommend the Ranch Tortellini Salad and I’m pretty sure those were Cheez-It crumbs on the mac and cheese. As for the ribs….yum.

One thing that I thought was really cool is that Ben also threw in bottles of his BBQ and Buffalo Ranch sauces. Both were fantastic….I’ve literally been having dreams about the Buffalo Ranch sauce. That’s not a joke or an exaggeration.

Lucky for me, I’ve been told that both are available at the Beaver County Fruit Market in Center Township.

Three days later, I’m still chowing down on the leftovers and I strongly recommend that you call Ben to handle the food for your next party or event. He’s awesome. You can get all the information you need including menus and pricing right from his website.
